Description

Dependable Polyskim Premium Gypsum Based Skimcoat - 25 Lb. Bag

POLYSKIM® is a premium gypsum based skimcoat designed for use over gypsum concrete, wood, and other surfaces. POLYSKIM is a one component system, reducing installation time. POLYSKIM’s polymer modified formula allows for a creamier feel under the trowel, enhanced bond, and superior dry time.

Features and Benefits

  • Smooth feel on the trowel
  • Fast drying
  • Latex pre-mixed in product, one component system
  • Great for gypsum concrete repair

  • 25 lb. (11.25 kg.) double wall bag

SURFACE PREPARATION

All supporting surfaces shall be structurally sound, solid, free of movement and well bonded. Make sure underlying surface is free of moisture and clean of any contaminants such as dirt, wax, paint, sealers, adhesive, chemical residue, oil products or foreign matter that may interfere with a proper bond. When a proper bond is in doubt, perform a test patch in an inconspicuous area. Do not proceed if dissatisfied with bond and contact Technical Services.

Honor all moving joints. Complete crack and substrate repairs prior to installation. Moving cracks or joints filled with Polyskim may reflect through finished floor. Consult an engineer for required joints and crack repairs prior to installation; if the cracked substrate is gypsum concrete, consult Dependable Technical Services on the suitability of Consolicrete. Maintain a minimum of 50ºF during the application and for 72 hours after installation. Acclimate the material to a minimum of 50ºF prior to mixing.

Concrete Floors

Remove all foreign matter by mechanical means. Floor must be free of efflorescence and excess moisture. To check moisture, test with a calcium chloride test (ASTM F1869-09), or relative humidity (insitu probe) test (ASTM F2170-09). To correct moisture problems, see DEPENDABLE’s moisture protection products.

Gypsum Subfloors

Gypsum subfloors must be swept and cleaned prior to installing Polyskim. It is strongly recommended that every gypsum subfloor is checked for porosity prior to installing Polyskim. If the gypsum subfloor is extremely porous, a coat of Primer A should be applied to ensure a strong bond. Mix Primer A 3-1 with water, and apply to the substrate with a soft tipped bristle broom.

Wood Floors

Ensure wood floors are free of movement and excessive moisture. Fasten any loose boards. Stripwood floors should be covered with underlayment grade quality board.

Adhesive Residue

Using mechanical means, remove loose, brittle or thick/heavy accumulations to a well-bonded residue. Sweep or vacuum area. Prime residue with DEPENDABLE ACRYLIC EMBOSSING ADDITIVE and allow to become nearly dry and tacky. Caution: Cutback adhesive may contain asbestos. Contact state or local authorities for proper removal and disposal procedures.

MIXING

After preparing the surface, use a clean mixing container. Add approximately 2-1/2 parts POLYSKIM into 1 part cool clean water. Mix thoroughly to a lump free consistency. Mixture will remain workable for 15 minutes. Do not mix more than you can place within 20 minutes. Do not attempt to extend pot life by later adding additional water. Avoid floor mixing. Always use clean containers and mixing implements as leftover residue can accelerate the chemical reaction and/or reduce pot life of new mix.

APPLICATION

Using a smooth at trowel, force POLYSKIM into joints, cracks, voids and deeper fills bearing down on the trowel. Smooth a thin covering over the prepared substrate and build any thicker fills or transitions to over 1 inch thick. Allow the POLYSKIM to dry completely before going over the surface with a second application if needed. When dry, scrape or sand smooth for a perfect finish.

Adhesive Residue – Apply POLYSKIM mixed with ACRYLIC EMBOSSING ADDITIVE at a mix ratio of 2 parts POLYSKIM to 1 part ACRYLIC EMBOSSING ADDITIVE over primed adhesive residue.

LIMITATIONS – Do not use…

• Where hydrostatic pressure (water) exists or moisture emissions exceed level permitted for installing floor covering. POLYSKIM can tolerate any amount of moisture from a concrete slab so long as all of the moisture from the slab will escape past the floor covering. If the floor covering’s moisture permeability does not meet or exceed the moisture content of the slab, Dependable recommends moisture remediation. Use Dependable’s Vaporseal HM, or an approved alternative, to remediate moisture in concrete, consult the Vaporseal HM data sheet, or call technical services, for more details.
• Where surface or ambient temperature falls to or below 50°F within 72 hours of installation.
• Over presswood, particle board, masonite, chipboard, OSB, underlayment board not of APA Underlayment (exterior) grade or similar dimensionally unstable materials susceptible to movement or swelling.
• Over single layer stripwood floors.
